Manndalen Husflidslag was founded the 24th of May in 1966. The organization today consists of about 80 members, working to promote the local handicrafts which consits in many different forms.
From the shop ”Grenebua” in Manndalen in Kåfjord, you can buy beautiful handicraft articles, in the original coast sami tradition.
With origins from traditional techniques, models, patterns and materials, the organization developes new products. Most articles are made by local producers, for whom this is still an important additional income. The products are known for being of high standard, and must all go through a quality control before sale.
The Grene, and the process of making it, is one of the organizations main focuses. In Manndalen this technique of weaving - which is the oldest one known - has been an important tradition throughout centuries.
”Bonkosvotter” and f.ex. products with the original "pattern of Manndalen", are other popular articles which have been important for the organization to promote, and also protect.
In Grenebua you can also find jewellery, tablecloths, porcelain and much more from other suppliers from all around the country.
Manndalen Husflidslag wishes to promote and protect traditions, culture and identity by passing on the local handicraft traditions, and making it possible to take part in it on a daily basis, by arranging several courses. Especially it is important to remain the joy of creation and of being able to use something real, with roots in the local traditions, and to pass it on to the newer generations.
